The Varsity Race of 1912, London, England
The Varsity Race of 1912 The 1912 race went down in history as the first - and only - time when both boats sank after the race was started in half a gale (a matter of weeks before the Titanic followed suit). Amongst our selection of photographs taken on 30th March 1912. One particularly interesting image shows the Sculler Albany going to the rescue of the waterlogged Cambridge Crew; two of whom are seen in the water. The race had to be re-run on 1st April Ð with Oxford eventually winning. The Boat Race 1912. Rowing The Varsity Race of 1912 Oxford v Cambridge.
